Our Direction and Plan for Coin Roll Hunting, Silver Stacking and Podcasts
The past few months have been difficult for us in terms of our goals in regard to stacking silver and coin roll hunting Canadian nickels. The necessity of having to focus on the traditionally considered important aspects of life that we all have meant that we had to put our silver stacking and nickel coin roll hunting on hold. However, we love silver stacking and coin roll hunting, and more importantly, we love sharing our journey in these respects with the amazing communities that have grown around these topics and the great individuals who we have the pleasure to engage with on YouTube and through social media.
That is why we are now taking the opportunity to refocus our silver stacking and coin roll hunting goals. Further, we have also committed to doing podcast-like discussion videos two times a week, which we hope to be able to use to discuss the topics of coin roll hunting, silver and gold stacking and economics more generally. It may not come across in all of our videos, but we are avid lovers of economics and history and the discussion videos should be a great outlet to be able to engage these topics more fully.
In terms of coin roll hunting, our goals are a bit more definable. We are hoping to be able to coin roll hunt through two $100 boxes of Canadian nickels every week. I believe that now is a great opportunity to try to get as many 99.9% nickel nickels as we can as there is the potential that these coins might not be available in significant quantities for much longer. Therefore, we will commit to making a push to hoard them and two boxes a week should be a very achievable goal for us. Finally, we do not have a set number of ounces that we would like to add into our silver stack for the rest of the year, but I think we have a number of purchases left in front of us in 2015 and I am confident that anyone following this blog or our YouTube channel will enjoy the additions as well.
That is the rest of our 2015 in a nutshell. We are definitely excited about being able to get back into our favourite hobby of coin roll hunting as well as making more consistent silver additions and we are excited to add a little more discussion in between the hunting and stacking. Thank you again to everyone for sticking with us over the past year and we hope you enjoy what is coming.
Have you made any recent silver purchases and had success with coin roll hunting recently? Please feel free to let us know in the comment section below as we always love hearing the results that others are having as well.

End of 2014 Silver Additions - Increasing the Silver Stack
We started 2014 with the goal of stacking and additional 100 ounces of silver by the end of 2014. We made a strong push in the closing months of 2014 in order to successfully accomplish this goal. In the above videos, you can see our recent silver purchases that we were able to add to our silver stack. We were able to diversify quite substantially with these purchases. We added the following silver coins and silver bars into our silver stack at the end of 2014:
2 1oz Bald Eagles from the Royal Canadian Mint's Birds of Prey Series
4 1oz Australian Saltwater Crocodiles from the Perth Mint
10 1oz Australian Kookaburras from the Perth Mint
2 10oz Johnson Matthey silver bars
6 1oz Johnson Matthey silver bars
1 100gram Scottsdale silver bar
10 1oz Mexican Libertads
10 1oz American Eagles
It was not easy to make these purchases, but we have been very dedicated to accomplishing our 100 ounce goal. However, we certainly would not be able to do it without all of the support that we have received on this blog and on our YouTube channel. We are very blessed to be part of the great silver and coin roll hunting communities and we would not have been able to make the above purchases with the same enthusiasm without all of you.
Thank you for all of your support and stay tuned for a blog posting in the very near future concluding our goal of purchasing 100 ounces of silver in 2014. That video can now be seen on our YouTube channel.
Let us know in the comment section how your silver stacking goals went in 2014 and whether you have started in on your 2015 goals.

Nickel Coin Roll Hunting Finds From Box #36
We have been lucky to have had the time to do quite a bit of nickel coin roll hunting over the Holidays. As I have mentioned before, with the termination of the Canadian penny last year, we have focused on trying to get as many 99.9% nickel nickels as we can. The results from this box were not the best in terms of the nickel bullion within the rolls, but we were able to add 77 99.9% nickel nickels to our collection, in addition to four pre-1963 Canadian nickels and two pre-1960 American nickels. The best find that we had in this box was a 1940 King George VI nickel. It is not very often that we get to find a King George VI nickel, so it is always exciting for us whenever we come across one.
We have found that our numbers for the 99.9% nickel nickels has steadily decreased over the last few years, so we are lowering our expectations for each specific box. Rather than the typical 10% yield of two years ago, we anticipate there being between 6-8% nickel bullion nickels in the average box. Even at this level, we still find coin roll hunting nickels to be a very enjoyable hobby and worth the time and effort. Here are the results from this box:
$100 Nickel Box #36
-Pre-1982 99.9% nickel nickels: 77 (3.85%)
-Pre-1963 Canadian nickels: 4 (1940, 1960, 1962x2)
-Pre-1960 American nickels: 2 (1947, 1953)
I've gone through a number of boxes over the last few weeks, so I look forward to sharing the results from these nickel boxes with you. My brother and I have discussed our 2014 coin roll hunting goals, particularly as it relates to nickels. I will put this video out in the coming days and explain the journey we have planned in the new year. How are all of your coin roll hunting searches going and what have been some of your best finds recently?

Time to Revive the Blog
When my brother and I started this blog in May of last year, we had planned to keep it updated with our coin roll hunting finds, the expansion of our silver stack and also some discussion about Austrian economics. However, we found it much easier to document our finds through our YouTube channel. This led to us neglecting this blog and the great readers looking for information and the enjoyment of seeing our coin roll hunting finds (something that I personally love seeing from others as well!).
With this in mind, my brother and I are going to commit to reviving this blog. We will start by posting the copper penny and 99.9% nickel results that we have obtained through coin roll hunting in the past year and a half. I still have the majority of the information from each box, so it only makes sense that we share the results. We will also share our new silver stacking goals now that the Canadian penny has been terminated, leaving us without our beloved hobby of coin roll hunting pennies. Although this blog has centered around coin roll hunting rather than silver, primarily due to coin roll hunting being significantly unknown in relation to silver, we see it as a good opportunity to start discussing silver and precious metals in general on the blog.
Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to visit this blog over the past 18 months. We hope that you will enjoy the new content, and more importantly, we hope to engage in a great discussion with everyone about coin roll hunting, silver and economics. If you coin roll hunt, let us know how you have been doing with your results recently, or if you stack silver, what are your goals for the rest of the year?

Copper Penny Hoarding Results From Box #48
One of my favourite hobbies is coin roll hunting through rolls of pennies, nickels and dimes. For the past three years we have been going through $25 pennies boxes looking for Canadian pennies to add to our hoard. We were lucky to be able to go through another box yesterday in order to take advantage of the increased value of copper pennies.
Our 48th penny box was fairly up and down. There were eleven full rolls that had no pennies before 1997, meaning not a single copper penny. However, to make up for such a poor run of rolls, there were five rolls that were filled completely with copper pennies. In fact, two of the rolls were fortunately filled completely with pennies before 1980, which are Canada's best copper pennies to find. In the end, we ended up pretty close to our average and got a pretty decent result from this box. Here are the results from this box:
$25 Penny Box
-940 copper pennies (37.6%)
Total King George VI pennies: 6
Total American Wheat cents: 3
It is always a nice feeling to be able to store some of our wealth in copper pennies, while at the same time gather some older numismatic coins. All the best in your searches this week!

Copper Penny Hoarding Results From Box #37
Excellent condition Canadian centennial dove pennies!
In our 37th penny box, we were fortunate to get a decent copper percentage, in addition to a number of American Wheat pennies and Canadian King George VI pennies. Finding every Wheat and King George penny now is more important than ever since we have not been able to get anymore pennies from the banks. Also, since the Canadian Mint is melting down every Canadian penny, including these older numismatic coins, the value of King George pennies should go up significantly in the future. Here are the results for this box:
The King George and Wheat pennies from our 37th box
$25 Penny Box
-852 copper pennies (34.1%)
Total King George VI pennies: 3
Total American Wheat cents: 2
Hopefully our last remaining penny boxes can yield a significant copper percentage, as well as some more King George pennies and Wheat cents. All the best in your hunts this week!

US Debt Ceiling Debate Back in the News!
It seems as though it is the gift that keeps on giving; the US debt ceiling debate is back in the news. If you remember, the US national debt reached the debt ceiling of $16.4 trillion (that's right, trillion with a "T") after the US election in December of 2012. Instead of raising the debt ceiling in January 2013, the debt ceiling was "suspended" until May 19th. This weekend, the deadline came and went and we once again we are at the point where the debt ceiling must either be raised or suspended again.
It should also be mentioned that in the five months since January, an additional $300 billion has been added to the national debt. In the video above, we mention our thoughts on how amazing it is that this news story has been flying under the radar and how this entire debt ceiling story effects the way we invest in silver. Let us know your thoughts in the comment section on the debt ceiling story line.

Awesome Coin Roll Hunting Results!
This was box a great box, with 15 King George VI pennies!
It is also nice to get these older King George pennies because the pennies have been discontinued here in Canada, which should make their value increase in the future as their numbers thin due to many of them being destroyed (i.e. melted down) during the government's transition. Here are the result for this box:
$25 Penny Box
-860 copper pennies (35.20%)
Total King George VI pennies (15): 1940x2, 41, 43, 45, 46x2, 47x2, 48, 49, 50, 51, 52
Total American Wheat cents (1): 1941
With these results, we have completely caught up on the boxes we hoarded before the Canadian penny was discontinued in February. Therefore, all of the penny results in the future will be from our last 14 boxes. Hopefully, they will be as fruitful as this box was.

Canadian Copper Penny Results - Penny Box #35
Great to find a 1939 King George VI penny!
Coin roll hunting for Canadian copper pennies is one of my favourite hobbies. Unfortunately, pennies were discontinued in Canada this February. But my brother and I were able to hoard a few boxes before they were gone. These penny results are not from those final hoarded boxes, but are from a box I coin roll hunted back in January and wasn't able to produce the results for because I returned back to school. Here are the results:
$25 Penny Box
- 880 copper pennies (35.20%)
Total King George VI pennies (4): 39, 44, 50, 51
Keeping the nice condition pennies before 1980.
Hope that you enjoy the results for this box. Check out the YouTube video above to see the full results from box #35.

We will also continue coin roll hunting 99.9% nickels weekly, with the possibility of increasing the number of boxes we were doing from last summer since there will be no more pennies available to coin roll hunt. Thank you to everyone taking a look at this blog and we hope that you enjoy the future updates!

What We Coin Roll Hunt and How Often
We've been getting a few questions regarding what types and what denominations of coins we are currently coin roll hunting through, and how often. At this time, we are coin roll hunting on the weekend mostly. Usually this will take place on Saturdays. We have never had a problem finishing our sorting in a day or two, and generally re-roll the coins sometime during the week before bringing them back to the bank before the next search.
As for the types of coins that we coin roll hunt through, every week we order: (1) two boxes of Canadian pennies, (2) one box of Canadian nickels, (3) one box of Canadian dimes.
Right now we are happy with sorting through four boxes a week, but might look into increasing this total in the near future. Don't forget you can see the results of our weekly coin roll hunts on our result pages, and videos of these hunts can be found on our YouTube Channel.

Our First Dime Box
Unfortunately, our first look at the rolls sunk our hopes for silver. They were all machine wrapped rolls, and in the past, machine wrapped rolls produced very few of the coins that we were looking for. The chances of finding a silver dime, we thought, were extremely low. I searched through five rolls and our initial thoughts turned our to be true. There was not a single dimes before the year 2000, meaning that they were all of the worthless steel variety. We decided to stop there since we were destroying the machine wrapped rolls and did not have any dime rolls in which to re-roll the coins and bring them back to the bank. However, we posted a video about the box on our YouTube Channel and our amazing subscribers informed us that we could reuse the machine wrapped rolls by carefully unfolding an end.

Welcome to Canada Coin Hunting!
Thank you for visiting our blog! If you are looking for an easy way to invest in metals and bullion to protect against inflation, or to just have some fun while searching for old numismatic coins, of if you just enjoy watching the excitement of coin roll hunting, then you have come to the right place.
Canada Coin Hunting follows and documents the coin finds of two brothers. Each week, we sort through two boxes of pennies and a box of nickels looking for 98% copper pennies and 99.9% nickel nickels. In the near future we will also begin looking for 80% silver dimes boxes. Many individuals do not know that Canada's currency was once made out of these valuable metals and are worth much more than their face value today. However, coin roll hunting doesn't just produce these valuable metal coins. Many weeks we find older and rare coins that are almost one hundred years old. Our hobby of coin roll hunting also provides us with an enjoyable way to relax and to discuss topics of economics and politics.
This blog will also be used to discuss topics related to coin roll hunting, such as monetary policy, fiscal policy, and economics. Coin roll hunting is not a get rich scheme and therefore we find that it is also useful to become rich in knowledge. For us, coin roll hunting is a way to put our economic and philosophic ideas into action and to protect against the irresponsible monetary policy that the world is embarked upon.
We hope that you enjoy the blog and find it useful. Please feel free to leave any questions in the comments section below. You can follow us on Twitter at @coinhunting. If you want to see videos of our most recent coin finds, visit our YouTube Channel here: http://www.youtube.com/user/CanadaCoinHunting.
